Graduation Update 04/28/2020

4/28/20

Dear Senior, Parent/Guardian:

I want to begin by thanking all of you who responded to the graduation poll last week. We are looking forward to honoring our very deserving graduates! Based on results, Traditional Graduation was our winner with 41 votes followed by 8 votes for the Drive-Thru Graduation and 3 votes for Virtual.

You may have heard the Governor’s mandate that no traditional graduations may be held before July 1st, with that date to be reassessed closer to that date, due to CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and group meetings of no more than 10 people. When we contacted our usual venue to reschedule, the Jones Center at OBU, we were told that they are not scheduling any graduations at this time so we then had to begin searching for an alternate location which would be available and have an open date. It was quite a challenge during these unsure times. However, we were able to reserve the Hot Springs Convention Center for July 28, 2020 at 7pm. The additional space provided at the Convention Center will also allow for social distancing between families, thus providing additional safety measures. If, once we get closer to the July 28th date, the Governor extends the “no traditional graduation” date beyond our planned graduation, we will be prepared with a Plan B, which is our 2nd top vote getter of the Drive-Thru parade style graduation. We understand that many students will be leaving for college, some out of state, and the military so we want to be sure to recognize and honor our graduates even if the Governor’s mandate is extended.

However, we are very excited and optimistically looking forward to our planned traditional graduation ceremony on July 28, 2020 at 7pm at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Students will be contacted closer to this date with details on rehearsal and other items.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you walk across that stage, Senior!

Sincerely,

Susan Kissire
