About Us

Bismarck High School is a rural school located 15 minutes south of Hot Springs along scenic Hwy 7 on Lake DeGray.   BHS is a 9-12 school with a student population of approximately 300.   We have a great faculty and staff that cares about kids and their success.

We are a 3A school with large school opportunities yet in a small community setting.

New High School

At the end of October, the high school staff was given a tour of the new facility. The building is going to be wonderful. A Web Photo page has been added so you can view the progress for yourself.

Arkansas School Board Member Recognition Week

January 24-30 has been designated Arkansas School Board Member Recognition Week.  While schools all over the state are involved in activities and plans to honor their local school board, we here at Bismarck Schools are especially grateful to our board members.  Many do not realize the hours of service required and the sacrifices citizens make when they accept a seat on their local school board.  Many hours of training each year are required, and they must attend monthly meetings locally as well as many special-called meetings to take care of situations that arise.  They are responsible for the curriculum, instruction, finance and facilities of our public schools.  This is done on a volunteer basis and with little recognition of the hard work and dedication required.

Our school district has experienced many challenges over the past several years, and our school board members worked tirelessly and remained positive and supportive throughout the struggles to save our school.  They work together in harmony and always with the best interest of our school and community at heart.  As a result, we have emerged stronger than ever.  Please join us in extending thanks and appreciation to all five of our school board members; Mrs. Birdie Holder, Mrs. Nellie Looper, Mr. Tony Hardage, Mr. Brian Hinds, and Mr. Gary Burroughs.  To them we say: "Thank you all for helping to provide the best possible education for our students!"

B.U.G. Program

A new after-school tutoring program called B.U.G. (Bring Up Your Grades) has been started at BHS. Students can receive help in Math, English, and Science. The program is setup on a come-and-go basis. Teachers are available between the hours of 3:30 and 5:30. For more information on the program, please contact Larry Newsom at 501-865-4541.
